GUINEA-PIGS
Why neuter your guinea-pig?

  • so you can keep two together without fighting or mating. It is
not easy to sex baby guinea-pigs and you may not know you
have a male and a female till the babies appear. The male
can reach sexual maturity at 9-10 weeks old and the female at
    4-6 weeks.
  • castrating the male is quite straightforward and is usually the
    best option
  • spaying the female may not be required unless you have two
females that fight when in season. Guinea-pigs do have
problems with cystic ovaries, which can make spaying
    necessary later in life.

PRICES

Spaying female        £50
Castrating male        £40

Although the anaesthetics used for guinea-pigs are
not licensed for that species, they are widely used and
reasonably safe. Anaesthetising guinea-pigs does
carry a higher risk than it does for dogs, cats or ferrets.
